So, it's finally here! The Raja Saab hit theaters today (January 9, 2026—can you believe we’re already in 2026? I still catch myself typing 2025 sometimes, haha) and the internet is basically on fire.

Prabhas is back, but this time it’s not the "save the world" Bahubali vibe; it’s more of a "vintage Darling" horror-comedy vibe. The big headline right now is that despite some pretty brutal reviews from critics, the movie has managed to rake in over ₹26 crore on its first day in India.
Here is the full breakdown of what's happening with The Raja Saab (or as some of my friends are calling it, "The Raja Sob" because they didn't like it... oops!).
The Box Office "Magic" (Day 1)
Even though the reviews are all over the place, Prabhas' stardom is clearly doing the heavy lifting. Making ₹26 crore on a Friday for a horror-comedy is actually quite massive, even if it's "low" compared to his previous monsters like Kalki 2898 AD.
Movie Day 1 Genre
Collection
(Approx)
The Raja ₹26 Cr+ Horror-Comedy
Saab
Kalki 2898 AD ₹95 Cr. Sci-Fi/Epic
Salaar ₹90 Cr. Action
Adipurush ₹86 Cr. Mythology
Note: Even though it's lower than his action films, The Raja Saab actually beat the daily collection of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which has been ruling the box office for weeks. Prabhas just walked in and took the crown back!
The Reviews: A "Royal Mess" or a "King-Size Hit"?
The reviews are honestly a bit of a rollercoaster. It seems like you’ll either love the "vibe" or hate the "execution."
The Good stuff:
Vintage Prabhas: Everyone is agreeing that Prabhas looks great. He’s back to doing comedy and being charming, which we haven't seen in forever.
The Climax: The last 40-45 minutes are being praised as "Hollywood standard" VFX-wise. There's a hospital scene that people are losing their minds over.
Sanjay Dutt: He plays the antagonist and apparently, his face-off with Prabhas is one of the few things that actually works.
Thaman's Music: Some people love the BGM, saying it saves the "scary" scenes.
The "Not-so-Good" stuff:
The Length: The movie is 3 hours and 10 minutes long. That is a long time to sit in a theater if the jokes aren't landing.
Messy Script: Critics are saying the director, Maruti (wait, I mean Maruthi—Maruti is the car company, lol), couldn't decide if he wanted to make a horror movie or a romance.
Tacky VFX: While the climax is good, some of the early CGI (like a random crocodile??) looks a bit... cheap.
Underused Actresses: Malavika Mohanan and Nidhhi Agarwal don't have much to do besides look pretty and dance in songs that feel "stuck on" the plot.
What is it actually about? (No Spoilers!)
The story follows Raju (Prabhas) who lives with his grandmother, Gangamma. She has Alzheimer's and keeps dreaming about her missing husband. This leads Raju to a creepy, haunted mansion called Raja Deluxe.
From there, it's a mix of ghosts, family secrets, and some very "loud" comedy. There's even a sequel teased at the end called The Raja Saab: Circus 1935... though after these reviews, some people are saying they hope it stays in the tent!
My Honest Take
If you’re a die-hard Prabash—sorry, Prabhas—fan, you’ll probably enjoy seeing him smile and joke around again. But if you’re looking for a tight, scary horror movie, you might end up checking your watch halfway through the second act.
