Ed Kelce Reveals What Almost Stopped The Taylor Swift Engagement

Oh my goodness, can you believe it? The news is just everywhere, and I'm honestly so happy for them. You know, I saw something about it while I was trying to figure out what to have for dinner last night and I almost dropped my phone in my ramen! It's like, you hear about these people, these big celebrities, and you think their lives are so different, but then you hear a little story like this and you're like, "Oh, they're just like us!"

So, apparently, Travis Kelce's dad, Ed Kelce (who, by the way, seems like the sweetest guy), was chatting with some news folks and spilled all the tea. You know how parents are, they just can't help but gush about their kids. My mom is the same way, she's probably told all of our neighbors about my new curtains. But anyways, Ed said that before Travis got down on one knee, he was actually really worried about the whole thing. Can you imagine? Travis Kelce, a big ol' football star, was nervous!

Ed said that Travis was thinking of waiting and planning some big, huge, massive event for the proposal. Like, you know, something super grand and Hollywood-y. Maybe with a marching band or a hot air balloon or something. But then, Ed and even Taylor's dad, Scott Swift, gave him some really good, dad-style advice. They were like, "Son, listen. You don't need all that fuss. Love is special no matter where you do it. You could do it on the side of the road and it would still be a special event." Isn't that just the best advice? It's like something out of a Hallmark movie. I almost teared up reading it. Almost. My contact lens was bothering me.

And get this, Ed also said that Taylor was "getting a little antsy." Which, hello, who wouldn't be? When you know you've found "the one," you just want to get on with it! It’s all so relatable. The little human moments are what make it so sweet.

So, instead of some huge production, Travis just took her out to their backyard garden in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was like, "Hey, let's go have a glass of wine," which, if you ask me, is the perfect way to start a magical night. And that's where he popped the question. It sounds so intimate and beautiful. The photos they shared on Instagram show a lovely garden full of flowers, so it's not like it wasn't special, but it wasn't this over-the-top, crazy thing he was originally thinking about. It was just for them.

After she said yes (obviously!), they started FaceTiming all their parents—Ed, Donna, and the Swifts—to share the good news. Can you even imagine getting a FaceTime call from them? I'd probably faint. Ed said as soon as he saw their faces, he knew what they were going to say. It just goes to show how much their families are a part of their lives, and how close they all are now. It's just so wonderful and I'm just so, so, so happy for them. It's all a little bit like a fairy tale, you know? Just with more football and friendship bracelets.
