Thamma Box Office Day 1: Ayushmann Khurrana Hits His Biggest Opening EVER,

Oh wow, okay, let's talk about Thamma Day 1! I was checking the box office numbers this morning while trying to finish my coffee—you know how it is, Tuesday morning after a big Diwali holiday, my brain is still fuzzy.

So, the Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna horror-comedy, which is the fifth film in that Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU? Did I get that acronym right? Sounds a bit like a dental procedure, but okay), it had a huge opening! Well, maybe not huge like a 100 crore opening, but big for Ayushmann, definitely.

The latest, final-final numbers I saw—or maybe they were just an estimate, because honestly, who knows what's final anymore—were around ₹25.11 crore (net) in India. But I also saw ₹24 crore somewhere else, so let's just say it's in the ₹24 to ₹25 crore bracket. That's a lot of money! Like, enough to buy... maybe two really nice apartments in a slightly less crowded part of Mumbai.

Now, here's the kicker: it's apparently Ayushmann Khurrana's biggest opening day ever, which is awesome for him. His previous best was Dream Girl 2, I think, which made only ₹10.67 crore. See? ₹25 crore is way more than ₹10 crore. Basic maths, I nail that.

But, get this, it's still lagging behind its predecessors in the same universe! Like, Stree 2 (last year's big hit) did some crazy number—like ₹51 crore or ₹54 crore, my memory for large numbers is terrible—and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 was also higher, in the ₹30s, I think. Plus, some other 2025 releases like Chhaava and Sikandar are also ahead of it on the biggest opener list for the year. It's like the little sibling who tries their hardest but can't quite beat the older, cooler kids.

Key Day 1 Details (as far as my tired brain remembers them):

India Net Collection (The big one): About ₹24 to ₹25.11 crore. (I'll take the ₹25.11 crore because it looks more official, right?)

Worldwide Gross: Around ₹32 crore (because, you know, overseas sales are always a bit lower on a Tuesday/Diwali release).

Occupancy: It was slow in the morning, which is typical because everyone is busy with Lakshmi Puja or cleaning or recovering from the Diwali party the night before. But it picked up a lot in the evening and night shows, with some places getting over 40% occupancy!

The Why: It got a good bump because it was a Diwali extended holiday release. Also, it's about vampires, or Betaals, which is kinda new and cool for an Indian movie, even though I keep thinking of the one from Vikram Aur Betaal.

The Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing a vampire villain. And apparently, Varun Dhawan's Bhediya has a fun cameo! Everyone's talking about that part!

So yeah, a very decent start, a new record for the hero, but not quite the franchise's biggest hit... yet! We'll see how it does over the weekend, when people finally wake up after all the festive eating.
