So, did you hear the news? Makkal Selvan—that’s Vijay Sethupathi, if you’re not caught up—just confirmed he’s going to be in Jailer 2! Honestly, I’m so hyped about this because he’s basically one of the best actors we have right now, and seeing him with Rajinikanth again is going to be epic.

I was reading about it this morning (January 15, 2026), and apparently, he did an interview where he basically said he’s breaking his own rules for this.
Why the Change of Heart?
If you follow Sethupathi, you know he recently said he was done with cameos and villain roles. He felt like they were just using him to make the hero look good, and the scripts weren’t exciting enough. But for Jailer 2, he made a total exception.
The way he put it was actually pretty sweet. He said:
"I did a cameo in Jailer 2 because I love Rajini sir. I want to be with him. I got to learn a lot. The superstars survived in this industry for so many decades. There is so much to learn."
It’s kind of cool to see a huge star like him still acting like a fanboy when it comes to Thalaivar. They haven't worked together since Petta (I think that was 2019? Yeah, sounds right), so this reunion is a big deal.
What We Know About Jailer 2 So Far
The movie is shaping up to be even bigger than the first one. Here’s the tea on the cast and everything else:
Release Date: Mark your calendars for June 12, 2026. (Wait, some reports say August, but most of the recent ones are pointing to June. Let's hope it's sooner!)
The Director: Nelson Dilipkumar is back. After the first one made like 650 crores, there was no way they weren't bringing him back.
The Cast: It's honestly getting a bit ridiculous (in a good way):
Rajinikanth is obviously back as Muthuvel Pandian.
Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu are returning.
S.J. Suryah has a big role (he’s always so chaotic, I love it).
Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty are also in it!
Cameo Central: Along with Vijay Sethupathi, we’re probably getting Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar again. It's like the Avengers of South Indian cinema at this point.
Some Random Details
Music: Anirudh is doing the music again. If the BGM is even half as good as "Hukum," we’re in for a treat.
Shoot Info: They’ve been filming in places like Chennai, Kerala (a place called Attappadi), and even Goa. Rajini even celebrated his 75th birthday on the set last year!
I really hope Sethupathi’s role isn't too small. Even if it's just a few minutes, his screen presence is usually enough to steal the show. Plus, I’m curious if he's playing a "good guy" or someone a bit more morally grey.
