So, the story goes that at the absolute wedding of the century (Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s big day), Martin Short—who is basically Selena’s honorary funny uncle at this point—found himself in a bit of a pickle.
Since it’s now 2026, we’ve all been waiting for this wedding forever, right? Well, Marty apparently got a little too excited during the reception.

The "Incident"
According to the guests (and probably some frantic TikToks), Martin Short was wandering near the dessert table. He thought the massive, five-tier floral masterpiece was actually a display of decorative appetizers.
Being the polite gentleman he is, he grabbed a small silver knife nearby to "sample" what he thought was a very large wheel of brie. Before security or a bridesmaid could scream "NO!", Marty had cleanly sliced a decent-sized wedge right out of the bottom tier.
What He Did Next
Once he realized it was moist vanilla sponge and not cheese, his comedic instincts kicked in. He didn't run away; instead, he did the most Martin Short thing possible:
The Cover-Up: He immediately took a nearby decorative peony from a vase and "plugged" the hole. He allegedly whispered to Steve Martin, "If we don't look at it, it didn't happen, Steve."
The Distraction: When Selena and Benny walked over for the official cake cutting, Marty jumped in front of them and started performing a spontaneous, high-energy rendition of a song from Only Murders in the Building.
The Confession: Eventually, he felt bad. During his toast, he admitted to the "pre-tasting" and told Benny that as the groom, he should be honored that a comedy legend "safety-tested" the sugar levels.
The Fallout
Selena, being the gem she is, apparently thought it was hilarious. Benny, who loves food more than almost anything, reportedly just asked Marty if the cake was actually good. Marty’s response?
"It needed a hint more salt, darling, but the structural integrity was top-notch!"
